What our guests say

Real photos and words from travellers who joined our private Mount Fuji day trips this season.

The Berg family from Denmark at the Lawson convenience store viewpoint with Mount Fuji behind
Travelling with two teenagers, we worried the day would feel long — it flew by. Our guide timed every stop perfectly, and the photo stop at the famous Lawson viewpoint with Fuji behind us was the highlight for the kids. Door-to-door from our Tokyo hotel made it effortless.

Carol and Jim from the United States on a boat on Lake Kawaguchi with Mount Fuji in the background
At our age we don't do group buses anymore. The private car, the patient guide, and a boat ride on Lake Kawaguchi with the mountain right in front of us — this was the best day of our whole Japan trip. Worth every penny.

Marco and Giulia from Italy at Oshino Hakkai village with Mount Fuji behind the thatched roofs
Oshino Hakkai was even more beautiful than the photos — clear ponds, thatched roofs and Fuji watching over everything. Our guide knew exactly where to stand for the best pictures and never rushed us. A perfect day.

Sophie and Daniel from Germany looking at snow-capped Mount Fuji from a forest viewpoint
We booked for the photography and were not disappointed. Our guide brought us to a quiet viewpoint away from the crowds and we just stood there watching the mountain. Clear sky, no rush, wonderful company. Five stars.

Day trips from Tokyo, planned properly

Tokyo is one of the easiest cities in the world to travel out of. Within two or three hours by road you can stand beneath Mount Fuji, walk through the cedar avenues of Nikko, sit in front of the Great Buddha in Kamakura, or watch wild macaques bathe in a hot spring in the Nagano mountains. The difficulty is rarely deciding where to go — it is fitting the day together: the right departure time, the order of the stops, the season, and the traffic that decides whether you see the mountain clearly or not at all. Every itinerary we publish is built around those practicalities, so a single day feels unhurried rather than rushed between train platforms.

Private vehicles and English-speaking guides

Each of our four experiences runs privately for your group in an air-conditioned vehicle, with hotel pickup in central Tokyo and a driver-guide who speaks English. That matters most in places where public transport thins out: the Fuji Five Lakes area, the mountain road above Lake Chuzenji, and the walk up to Jigokudani Monkey Park. A private car also means you can linger at a viewpoint when the light is good, swap a stop when the weather turns, or start earlier to reach Fuji before the afternoon cloud settles in. Families, older travellers and photographers all benefit from that flexibility.

When to visit each destination

Mount Fuji is clearest from late autumn to early spring, when dry air lifts the summit above the haze; summer brings green slopes and lakeside colour instead. Nikko peaks in October and November, when the maples around Toshogu Shrine and Kegon Falls turn. The snow monkeys of Nagano are at their most photogenic between December and March, standing in steam and snow, though the park stays open year-round. Kamakura and Enoshima suit any season — hydrangeas in June, sea breeze and clear coastal views in autumn and winter. Tell us your travel dates and we will say plainly which day will reward you most.

How booking works

We keep this simple. You read the full itinerary, inclusions and pickup details here, then reserve your date through our booking partner GetYourGuide, which handles secure payment, instant confirmation and free cancellation up to 24 hours before departure on every tour we list. Nothing is charged on this website and we never store your card details. If you have a question before you commit — group size, child seats, dietary needs, or an unusual pickup point — write to us first and we will answer before you book.
